Is your child getting the best possible care? Child health care is something that many people take seriously . . . But they aren't always sure how to make sure their children are being properly looked after.
You may not take your own health too seriously, but if you are like millions of parents around the world, your son or daughter is another story. Most parents work very hard to look after their children. Part of being a parent is seeking out the best health care possible.
How can you ensure that your little one is receiving top quality care? You may have to try a few different doctors. It's usually best to go with a pediatrician, but if you find a GP that is doing an excellent job, there's nothing wrong with that, either. Many families grow up going to a family doctor who will refer them if they need a specialist.
Use your instincts. As a parent, you have better instincts than many, so pay attention to that gut feeling. If the doctor is saying that your baby has gas but you feel that it is something more, either insist on further exams or see a different doctor. Don't just sit back and leave things . . . That's the way children get sicker.
You can and should insist on quality health care for your children. If you don't advocate for them, who will? It's important to stand up for your family and make sure that they get what they need. Insist if you have to, or go to a higher level of help.
Child health care requires careful vigilance. Not everyone is out to protect your child and you are the best person to ensure that they are getting the required care. If not, you have a responsibility to do something about it. You can make a difference in how your child is treated.
